Update and trail closures

Trails are still in early season conditions.  Groomer is getting out where possible and volunteers are doing what we can to get the trails in shape.  Most areas have been cleared and the groomer can now reach the majority of our trails.  However, due to the low trees and not enough volunteers this weekend we haven’t been able to clear everything for the groomer.  Currently the groomer can’t get up Carmel yet or over 745.  So until we can get the groomer there, both those sections of trail are closed.  Volunteers continue to do what they can, but with all the trees that were down, we can always use more help.  So if you are unhappy with those sections of trails being closed, feel free to get out there and help get them cleared enough so the groomer can get through.

Thanks again to all those that helped this weekend.  Some were local, some came from out of state and all the help is appreciated and greatly needed!  To give some perspective, it took 5 of us all day to get the Caryl brook trail cleared and it had already had a lot done to it during the week and still could use some additional trimming here and there.  We had a few more groups out hitting various areas and they too ran into similar issues.

We need to get stuff like this trimmed back.

We need to get stuff like this trimmed back.

Thanks to everyone who helped out yesterday!

Clearing the trails

Clearing the trails

We had about 12 or so volunteers show up yesterday to help clear the trails. We spread out to cover as much of the area as we could and all our trails should be passable now on sled and groomer.

For those that aren’t aware, volunteers don’t get paid or any other compensation other than a chance at a volunteer TMA for next season. They pay for the gas they use bring their own equipment (chainsaws..etc). They also give up their day so those that can’t (or wont) help can ride. Think about this next time you have done free time or aren’t riding because the trails need clearing, but would have ridden otherwise. These trails don’t function without riders helping to maintain them.

Trail work tomorrow!

A group of us will be meeting at the Pittstop (aka Swiss Market) to work on the trails at 8am tomorrow (12/20).  Some of us we’ll be meeting around 7:30 at the Swiss Farm for breakfast too!  Join us if you can.  Bring your sled, chainsaw and a good attitude!  We’ll get these trails ready to go!  Don’t forget a snack and drink too.

Clearing still ongoing.. trails holding up..

Got an update from Dot.  She’s been out working on clearing the trails every single day and opening gates when possible – I don’t think all are open yet, but most should be.  If they aren’t open its simply because she couldn’t make it there yet.  Trails held up good with the weather as well, so riding should improve, we just need some more snow.  If you do ride, ride with caution and more importantly, if you can get out, get out and help us clear!  Dot we’ll be out again tomorrow and a group of us will be out Saturday, so feel free to contact me and join us!

Trails are open!

Welcome to the 2014/2015 snowmobile season!  Trails are open with early season riding conditions.  Open water bars, other hazards and trees in the trail are to be expected.  If you go out riding, please do what you can to help clear the trails when you come across trees/branches down.

Ride safely!
