We’re getting more snow today! Trails are already in great shape, so this snow will only help make them better. Hope everyone enjoyed their riding this weekend and Superbowl last night!

Riding is great!
Trails remain in good to great shape! We got 4-5″ from Juno which will help the trails and more snow is forecast for Friday. Trails should be great for the weekend, just remember if we get a lot of snow Friday, the groomer can’t groom until its packed so things could get bumped up quickly. Conditions can change quickly! I’ll try to post another update before the weekend.
Trails are great!
While we can always use more snow, our trails are (for the most part) in great shape. Just got back from 6 hours in the groomer smoothing out some of our trails and rode about 40+ miles today out to Barnard for lunch and back and it was a great day. Things should only improve as temps remain cold and we have some chances for snow in the forecast. Get out and ride!
Post storm update
Trails have held up well and look to benefit from the snow we recieved after the rain. Unfortunately the rain did start as ice and the snow was wet and heavy so there are some trees down and branches hanging in the trail. If you are out, please help out – even if you just stop a few times (heck, even once!) and move some branches off the trails, it goes a long way to help get things into shape. If the groomer can’t get out or has to stop to clear trees/branches, then there’s less time spent grooming!

Rather than ride under or around a branch like this, just take a minute and drag it to the side of the trail as I did. If everyone pitched in, our trails would get into great shape much faster.
From what I saw today, trails are in decent shape. We can always use more snow, but once the groomer has a chance to get out, things should improve even more.
As always, STAY ON THE TRAIL!! Trails are marked for a reason. Land owners let us use their land but the trail is marked so we only use the portion of land they want us to use. Stay in the markers. That field you think its ok to ride in happens to be their crops and riding affects them. Ride off trail enough and the trails will disappear. Dot does so much to keep our trails running and works with the landowners that the last thing she needs is to deal with a landowner who is unhappy because we have people riding off the trail. Thanks!
Get out and ride
Trails are improving!
Weekend Update
Trails in the National Forest area (74/75/745..etc) are in fair shape. Some spots are good, others fair. Still what I’d consider early season riding with hazards, so as always, ride with caution.
We also groomed out to RD59 today and from RD15 to RD59 was quite good. Solid cover over the majority of that section.
So there is some riding to be had. Best bet is to trailer to get to it, but you can make it without trailering, just expect some bad before you get to the decent. Hopefully we get some more snow soon and can get things into great shape.
No change in conditions
Roy just got back from a trip in the groomer doing some brush cutting and he reports that the 1.5″ of snow with crust on top has done little to improve the trails. We still need some real snow! Hopefully we get some more this week. We’ll post updates once things change.
We need this snow!
Trails are in very rough shape. There are some decent spots, but lots of ugly stuff here and there. I did a loop Friday, cutting out some trees during the ride and the first part of the loop was rough, but not awful. The 2nd (much shorter part – from Dot’s back home) should have been skipped. I would have been better going back the way I came.
Lots of open water bars, lots of ice, lots of branches here and there, dirt and rocks. Riding is still not recommended. Hopefully the snow that’s coming down now stays snow and we get close to the 6″ I’ve seen forecast. And hopefully the storm is dried out when the temps rise. Even with some ice/rain, 6″ will make a difference.
If you do go out in the near future, expect additional debris in the trail. Please take a few minutes to clear some off the trail. The tree in the photo was across the trail and I was able to simply grab an end and move it off the trail. Every little bit helps and will only speed up the process of getting the trails in shape as the groomer won’t need to stop and move things out of the way and can keep grooming.
Riding not recommended
While riding is possible now, it’s not recommended. Dot and I went out for a ride to see how the trails are holding up and see what additional clearing is needed. On the plus side, the base held up. On the downside, we need more snow. Water bars are open and very wet and there’s additional spots that are wet and bare as well. In addition, there are more trees down. Mostly smaller trees
that finally gave out, but still need clearing. If you have time to get out, please get out, ride and clear what you can. Dot and I did what we could this afternoon, but there’s still more to do. It’s early in the season still, so the sooner we get things cleared up, the sooner things will get back in shape once we do get some cold and snow.
