Trails are shaping up! Lots of new snow!

I haven’t measured, but I think its safe to say we had over 12″ of snow between yesterday and overnight.  I was out grooming from 5 to midnight and groomed all of our trails in the national forest – most twice, a few just one pass.  Lots of snow out there and the trails are looking good!  The rest of the trails will be groomed this week as well!

Keep checking on updates as we are planning on a group ride to Ramunto’s in Bridgewater in a few weeks.  We’ll post it here and create an event on facebook.

Latest conditions

We haven’t had the best weather lately, but we have had some snow among some rain.  Here’s some shots taken while grooming yesterday and last night.   The majority of trails in the National forest we’re groomed – at least one way, many groomed both ways.  They are in decent shape now.  I’ll update later today on the rest of our trails.  Snow in the valley is not as good and we have not groomed anything else yet.  Groomer will be out today trying to fill in more water bars in the national forest section of trails.

Riding is NOT recommended

We only got 3-4″ of snow this week and all this did was cover up the ice making thing look better then they are.  We do not recommend riding until we get more snow.  We are not grooming until we get more snow either.

And PLEASE when you do ride, obey all signs and do not ride off trail.  We have had enough issues with our trails so far this year, we do not need any more.

Services Trail Update

The services trail is roughly as outlined below in blue and it is signed.  This trail is design to get to services from west/south without having to detour around.  This is not designed to be a thru trail and should only be used if you need access to fuel and are not able to go around the longer way.  If you aren’t going to or coming from services, then you should not be on this new trail.  The 10mph speed limit MUST be observed and you need to obey the stop signs.  Trail is only open 10am to 8pm and should not be ridden at any other time.  Law enforcement will be monitoring and ticketing.  We do not want to lose this trail, so please help us keep it by riding responsibly.

Trail conditions are early season still.  Weather is not looking to help them so ride with caution if you ride.  We’ll post another update after we see what this latest weather does.

Trails remain closed

Currently our trails aren’t open for riding – they are icy and bare.  Weather forecast looks good for us getting some decent snow Friday, so trails should be ride-able after that with early season conditions (hazards such as open water bars, possible down trees, ice..etc).  We’ll post another update once we see what the storm brings.

Trails remain closed

We haven’t posted any updates in quite a while, simply because there haven’t been any updates to post.  Trails remain closed.  So why an update now?

Gates have now been closed.  Ground is no longer frozen, temps are warm, valley is bare and even the national forest trails that had some snow, have mostly lost their base, anything that is left is ice.

We’ve even had some stakes pulled by request of the landowner.

If we had some freak storm and were to get enough snow to ride, we will post any updates.  I expect at best, only our National Forest section of trails would be re-opened.

Landowner dinner will be our next (and only) event this season.  Once we have details, we’ll post them.

And remember, just because there may be no riding, doesn’t mean the businesses you’d ride to don’t still need your support.  Too many people look at a year like this and don’t buy a TMA and don’t come to Vermont.  If we don’t support VAST and the clubs and businesses that we enjoy EVERY year, they may not be here in the years that follow.

Trails are CLOSED!

As we expected, this weeks weather was not good and we are officially closing our trails until we get more snow.  We’ll post here once conditions allow us to re-open the trails.  We will be starting over in many areas unfortunately, hopefully some snow was able to hold on higher up.  We’re not even at the half way point in the season yet, so there’s plenty of time to ride still, we just need the snow!

Trails in poor to decent shape

Much of our trails are in decent shape with some in poor shape.  How well they hold up is going to depend heavily on the weather and traffic over the next few warmer days.  The best sections of our trails are in the National forest.  We also groomed today out to RD 59 via 100S and then back via Alt-100 to RD4, then a bit past RD3 up towards Ted Green Ford where we turn around.  A good portion of that trail, specifically out towards RD59 is in decent to good shape.  The other sections are in fair shape.  Between RD4 and RD3 is much better then it was, but we still need more snow – This likely is the best connector North/South at this time.  As always, ride with caution and expect variable conditions.

Trails are open with caution!

Our trails are now open.  These are very early conditions still.  Use caution and if you come across a gate that is still closed, turn around.  I believe most have been opened, but not all and if you go into another clubs territory and their gate is closed, then their trails are still closed.

As of Sunday 1/17, trails had a new coat of snow – more in some areas then others.  Expect Ice, rocks, open water bars, running water, mud and other hazards.  While the trails are open, riding is not recommended until we get a little more snow and/or the groomer has been out to groom.  Best area to ride is in the National forest – we’ve got the most snow there at this time.

Trails are still closed!

While we have snow, there’s not enough still and we had rain last night.  Groomer has not been out and gates are still closed.  When trails are open, we will post it here.  Please respect our landowners and stay off the trails until further notice.  Thanks.
